Faculty at an Engineering for One Planet workshop

UTA’s Engineering for One Planet (EOP) program helps faculty in any discipline weave sustainability into the courses they already teach, while still meeting each course’s core goals. It is funded by The Lemelson Foundation with ASEE, led by Dr. Erick C. Jones Jr. of the SEAR Lab, and runs through February 2027.

How it works

Sustainability High Impact Practices bootcamp

A two-day bootcamp where faculty redesign a course they already teach: new sustainability learning outcomes, hands-on activities and assessments.

Sustainability Professional Learning Community

A two-semester community in which small groups of faculty meet every two weeks to plan, teach and refine sustainability content together.

The shorter bootcamp drew more faculty, so Year 2 (2025–2026) centered on it and opened it to all disciplines. The team also built a brief 15-item student survey that measures sustainability learning across very different courses.
